Turmeric finger HS code for export: 0910 30 20
Key takeaways
- Dried turmeric fingers: 0910 30 20 in India's ITC (HS) list [1].
- The form decides the code. Fresh, dried, powder and other forms each have their own line [1].
- The first six digits travel. The rest belongs to each country [3].
- Check third-party lists. Some HS code websites swap the dried and powder lines.
What are the HS codes for turmeric?
Spices Board's ITC (HS) list gives these lines [1]:
| Product | ITC (HS) code | Description in the list |
|---|---|---|
| Fresh turmeric | 0910 30 10 | Fresh (turmeric) |
| Dried fingers and bulbs | 0910 30 20 | Dried (turmeric) |
| Turmeric powder | 0910 30 30 | Powder (turmeric) |
| Other forms, such as sliced | 0910 30 90 | Other |
| Turmeric oil | 3301 29 49 | Turmeric oil |
| Turmeric oleoresin | 3301 90 14 | Turmeric oleoresins |
Spices Board's mandatory testing circular supports the split. It lists whole dried turmeric under 0910 30 20, powder under 0910 30 30 and sliced turmeric under 0910 30 90 [2]. Its Japan entry adds split turmeric to that last line.
Oil and oleoresin sit in a different chapter. Don't use a 0910 code for an extract.
Why do websites disagree?
Because many are copied, and some have errors. While checking this guide, we found HS code websites that put powder under 0910 30 20 and whole dried turmeric under 0910 30 10. Those lines don't match Spices Board's list [1]. Use an official list, then confirm with your CHA.
Have you been shipping under a different line? Don't change it on your own. Show your CHA this list and ask them to confirm before your next shipping bill.
Which code does your buyer use?
Your buyer uses their own country's code, and the two can differ after the sixth digit. The Harmonized System identifies a product by six digits [3]. India adds two more, and so do other countries.
The EU is an example. Its import rules list turmeric as 0910 30 00, with no split by form [4].
So give both, if the buyer asks. Your shipping bill uses the Indian line. Your buyer's broker decides the import line, and your six digits, 0910 30, help them find it.
Where should the HS code appear?
- Your spec sheet. Add it near the product name, with one sheet per form.
- Your quotation. The buyer may need it to work out duty.
- Your commercial invoice and shipping documents. The line must match what your CHA files.
- Your website product page. Buyers and their brokers look for it.
Keep it the same everywhere. A code that differs between your quotation and your invoice looks careless, and it can raise questions at customs.
What does the code change?
The code affects more than the paperwork. Spices Board's testing list is organised by HS line, so the line you use affects which tests appear [2]. For the EU, whole dried turmeric needs aflatoxin results, while powder also needs Sudan dyes "not detected" [2].
Mixtures are different again. Spices Board lists curry powder and masalas under ex 0910 91 00, not under the turmeric lines [2].
