Gulfood 2027: a four-month plan for Indian food exporters
Key takeaways
- Dates: 15-19 March 2027. Show hours are 10:00-18:00 for the first four days and 10:00-17:00 on the last day, according to the organiser.
- India's role: Official Partner Country again, after an MoU between APEDA and the organiser.
- Volume: APEDA reports that the exhibitors it facilitated at Gulfood 2026 averaged 120-150 enquiries each.
- The decision point: buyers shortlist suppliers after the show, from what they can check online and in your documents.
- The fixes: your Google listing, a product page with real specs, and a spec sheet per product. All three can be ready before March.
When and where is Gulfood 2027?
The dates. The organiser lists Gulfood 2027 for 15 to 19 March 2027. Hours are 10:00 to 18:00 from 15 to 18 March and 10:00 to 17:00 on 19 March [1].
The venue. The organiser's site names Dubai World Trade Centre plus a second venue, described in different places as Dubai Exhibition Centre or Expo City Dubai [1]. APEDA's report on the 2026 edition describes the same two-venue set-up: Dubai Exhibition Centre, Expo City and Dubai World Trade Centre [3]. Check the floor plan before booking travel, because the halls are far apart.
Other fairs share the name. Gulfood Manufacturing is a separate event. If a buyer mentions "Gulfood" in a different month, ask which one.
What does India's Partner Country status mean for you?
It brings more attention to Indian stands, and more Indian competitors beside you. APEDA signed an MoU with the organiser that keeps India as Official Partner Country for 2027, the second year running [2].
What it doesn't change. Analysis of the MoU reports no new licence, fee or registration requirement for exporters [4].
Where the pavilion terms appear. For 2026, APEDA published its pavilion terms and tender documents on its own website. Watch apeda.gov.in's announcements for the 2027 terms rather than relying on third-party listings.
The practical effect. A buyer looking for turmeric, dehydrated onion or basmati will meet several Indian suppliers in one afternoon. Partner status puts India on the map. It doesn't decide which Indian supplier gets the reply.
What did Indian exhibitors get from Gulfood 2026?
APEDA's own report on Gulfood 2026 gives these figures [3]:
| Figure | APEDA's wording or number |
|---|---|
| India's role | Official Partner Country for the first time |
| Indian exhibitors in total | 600+ across both venues |
| APEDA-registered exporters in its pavilion | About 160+ |
| Trade deals | "about USD 18.27 million" collectively, for exhibitors it facilitated |
| Enquiries | "average 120-150 enquiries per exhibitor" |
| Show size | More than 8,500 exhibitors from 195 countries |
Read these as APEDA's figures about its own programme. They aren't an independent audit, and a single stand outside the pavilion may see very different numbers.
The number that matters most is the enquiries. Even the low end, 120 conversations in five days, is more than most small export teams can answer well in the following week.
What does a buyer do after visiting your stand?
A buyer who met many suppliers usually shortlists them that evening or the next day, from what they can check. In practice they:
- Search your company name. They're looking for a Google listing with a real address and photos of a real facility.
- Open your website or export page. They want your products, grades and the specifications you test for.
- Look for a spec sheet they can forward to their quality team without writing back.
- Check how fast you answered the message they sent after the show.
This is the gap a stand can't close for you. The stand gets you into the conversation; the evening check decides whether the conversation continues. Our guide to what foreign buyers check before replying covers each check in detail.
What should you fix, month by month?
You have four months. Do one thing well each month, rather than everything in February.
| Month | Fix | Done when |
|---|---|---|
| November | Claim and verify your Google Business Profile | Your listing shows the right address, phone and facility photos |
| December | Publish one product page per main product | Each page lists grade, packing, MOQ and the specs you test |
| January | Build a one-page spec sheet per product | Each sheet has a version date and your contact details (see what a spec sheet contains) |
| February | Prepare your follow-up | Reply templates, a lead log and a named person who answers within one working day |
Three things not to do:
- Don't print brochures with specs you don't test for. The first certificate of analysis will contradict them.
- Don't list certifications you don't hold. Buyers check, and it ends the conversation.
- Don't leave the follow-up plan until after the show. Build it before you fly. Our trade fair follow-up guide has a 14-day plan.
Should you exhibit, or visit first?
If you've never been, visiting first is a reasonable way to learn the show. Exhibiting makes sense when you can answer a large number of enquiries properly afterwards.
Ask yourself three questions before paying for a stand:
- Can we answer 100+ enquiries within two weeks, with the right documents attached?
- Does a buyer find a credible company when they search our name on a phone?
- Do we have a current spec sheet for every product we'll show?
If any answer is no, fix that first. A stand amplifies whatever a buyer finds afterwards, good or bad.
Exhibiting inside APEDA's pavilion and exhibiting alone are different decisions. Compare APEDA's published terms for 2027, when they appear, against a direct booking with the organiser.
